Roses
Got two of these done today. Not happy about the flowers themselves and how they turned out but the stems and leaves make up for it . The stems are whipped chain stitches and the stems for the leaves are whipped running stitches. i never tried using the thicker thread before and I'm very pleased with how that came out and how quick it was to do it. The hardest part is not to rush through it. I think that's what went wrong with the flowers. I don't know if I can even use them in the quilt because they're so bumpy to try to sew onto the backing. I may have to use them for something else. I think I need to put the flower parts on afterwards , after all the panel has been constructed.Anyway , it was a gorgeous day with beautiful lighting and Nora Jones singing to me all day long as I worked on this.

Gold/KRAZEE QUILT I
This is my first crazy quilt. It has bits of everything in it. Little bits of nothing as my husband once put it, in it. One day bc, before crazy quilt, I was organizing my stash in front of my husband instead of hiding my addiction or downplaying my love of collecting fabric. He said , "Why don't you get rid of all these little bits, these little bits of nothing?!"Couldn't he see the potential of all of this stuff I collect, I thought. No of course not. Not until a couple of panels were made and then he wanted the quilt for his den. Life has it' s twists and turns and my sweetheart passed away. I finished the quilt as a way of getting through that terrible loss. Now it's the quilt's turn to help others. Even though the quilt needs special care / dry clean only/ I'm donating it to help raise some money for the PGRs. Hello , BITE ME westboro baptist church! For Christmas this year Santa, I would like to see the PGR site has a section for an online raffle of quilts. In memory of my beautiful husband, a Veteran btw, one way or another this quilt is getting donated. So if you like it. If you really, really like it ,contact them cause they are the ones who it is going to. There's all sorts of ways to help out with the containment of wbc's antics. Lead with your strengthes as they say. Works for me. I'll talk you through making your own crazy quilt. Who knows maybe someone , somewhere will donate another one or someone , somewhere will help put an online raffle feature onto the PGR website if that's what they want.
Blessings,
Boop
STRAW INTO GOLD / KRAZY QUILT II,the sequel
Just waiting for the muslin backing to dry. This morning I put my palette together for my second crazy quilt. There's silks and satins and velvets
, but linen and cotton and just about any other fabric can go into one of these. I liked making the first one so much that I had to go for another. I don't know why I'm all thumbs at lining up points in quilting but I am. To me crazy quilting is free form. An interesting journey. Any beautiful piece of fabric is fair game to be used as long as it works in my palette.Chocolate and pumpkin coloured satin from my Quaker friend. A brand new silk dress from the thrift store(picked up for $8) A few prom dresses to boot. I measured out my muslin tearing it into strips that are about 10 in wide and a yard long. They can be trimmed later to be just the right size. There's 16 pieces of muslin to fill up with bits and snipets. It isn't an exact science, maybe that's why we mesh so well. There's plenty of margin for fixing a mistake here and there. And I'm not sure how it all with end. But that would ruin the surprise. This is my straw today.
